Domains

A domain is your unique address on the internet. You will get our .fi domains and the most popular international domain names from us. Domain registration and validity require that the domain name service (DNS) service be attached to the domain. The services provided in the subscription include the required name services.

Domain renewal
The domain name is valid for 1, 3 or 5 years. Renewal is not part of our contract. You can easily renew your domain 1 months before your domain expires with our automated system, which will send a reminder periodically.

Domain transfer
International com / net / org domains always take at least 5 days to migrate. This is a minimum time and most often the transfer will take about a week in optimum conditions. Transfers will not succeed if the current domain administrator does not approve the transfer within the five (5) day transfer period. Transfers require a domain transfer key (EPP Auth Code) and the transfer lock must not be activated.
FI domains are usually migrated daily, always by the receiving broker, and require a transfer key from the old broker.
With the EPP interface, you can get international domain names and .fi domain name's authorized agent exchange key or domain transfer key yourself via customer page.

Domain Name Parking
The parking service allows you to reserve your domain for later use. In situations where there is no need for a web site yet but the domain reservation is in a hurry, parking is the perfect option. You can also transfer your old domain name to the parking service, which will keep the cost of the unnecessary site low while keeping the domain name. Once lost, the domain can be difficult, expensive or impossible to recover.

DynDns service
Often when away from home, you need to connect to your home computer via SSH or VNC, but this is often tricky because most of the broadband that comes into the household has a dynamic IP address that changes from time to time. This can be circumvented by using a dynamic DNS service. The idea is that the machine periodically checks if the machine's IP address has changed, and if so, updates the new ip address to the provider's server, which in turn redirects its address to a more easily remembered domain name.

Anycast-based name server
Only with a .fi domain name can you get an anycast-based name service.

DNSSEC secures name servers
DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) is a service that strengthens the data security of name servers. DNSSEC is a type of insurance that guarantees that an internet user can access exactly the web page they intend to go to. With DNSSEC, you protect yourself from attacks on the name server system.
DNSSEC ensures that the responses received to name service queries come from the correct sender and that the response information has not been modified. When the DNSSEC service is enabled, answers to name service queries are received digitally signed.
In the name service, each domain name is given its own unique IP address (e.g. www. traficom.fi IP address is 87.239.126.33). DNSSEC's technology ensures that the computer sending the query (e.g. web browser) can see whether the answer received to the Internet address through the name service comes from a server that is registered as a trusted server.
